We are currently seeking a Site Manager for our Cleveland Teaching Fellows program.
The Program
TNTP is working with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) to create and implement Cleveland Teaching Fellows, a high quality alternate route into the classroom for outstanding career changers from a variety of backgrounds who commit to teach in high-need schools. Through a rigorous summer training institute, 50 Fellows prepare to begin teaching in classrooms each fall. The program is funded through a Transition to Teaching grant and based on successful Teaching Fellows programs run by TNTP around the country.
Role and Responsibilities
The Site Manager will work on-site in the school district and is responsible for ensuring the successful execution of the program. This position offers the successful candidate the opportunity to have a profound impact on how teachers are prepared to teach in hard-to-staff schools in Cleveland. Specifically, the Site Manager is responsible for the following:
•Managing a part-time Program Associate and Training and Resource Manager
•Designing and implementing recruitment strategies that attract high-quality alternate-route teachers from diverse backgrounds to apply to teach in district schools
•Managing a rigorous selection process to ensure that individuals accepted into the program meet our high-quality standards
•Designing and implementing effective strategies to match these individuals with schools in the district where they will fill high-need vacancies and receive on-site support
•Managing a high quality pre-service training institute
•Ensuring current Fellows receive a high level of program administration services
•Building effective relationships with district leaders, school administrators, and other key stakeholders within the community
•Creating management tools to monitor project progress and report effectiveness
•Making data-driven decisions that advance both the program and TNTP’s organizational knowledge
•Generating innovative solutions to program challenges
Qualifications

We are currently hiring instructors for our winter/spring season, beginning January 2, 2008 and ending June 3, 2008 with opportunities to work future seasons as well. Astrocamp is a unique non-profit education center that specializes in astronomy and physical sciences. Located on a forested campus near the town of Idyllwild at an elevation of 5,600 feet amidst the beautiful San Jacinto Mountains of Southern California. Over 16,000 students from 8-14 years old attend Astrocamp each year. With excellent teaching facilities we bring science to life through hands-on, experiential classes and activities. Our labs and facilities include an Olympic sized pool; extensive ropes course and rock wall, innovative classrooms, and two state of the art telescope viewing areas with CCD capabilities. Qualifications: Requires a passion for learning and working with children. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in the sciences, physics and astronomy are preferable, but all sciences will be considered. Must be a positive, energetic, and organized team member eager to learn new content. Desire to work and live in a small camp community is mandatory. Previous teaching experience is a plus. First Aid and CPR Certification required and lifeguard certification is helpful all necessary certifications will be provided on site to those not certified.
Salary and Benefits: Starting at $55 per day, plus Room and Board. Staff live on-site in partially furnished group apartments and all meals are provided in the dining hall. Staff are not required to supervise students in the dorms or free time. Health insurance after six months of employment, and training is fully paid. Astrocamp is located on a 90-acre campus adjacent to a national forest with easy access to world-class rock climbing, outstanding hiking, and great mountain biking.
